Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, also called the Vespers, is some of the most divine a cappella music ever written. The text includes several psalms plus the Gloria in excelsis, Ave Maria, Magnificat, and Nunc dimittis. Rachmaninoff’s music is about beauty and he chose to express his personal religious faith by writing this quiet, reflective and deeply moving work that has become a haunting cornerstone of the choral repertoire. The concert concludes with a wine and cheese reception.
